Synopsis
De-Lovely (2004) is Irwin Winkler's musical drama about songwriter Cole Porter, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Kevin Kline plays the composer as an old man staging his own life back to him — a Broadway show built from the songs he left behind.
The film loops from Porter's final years to his youth in Paris, where he meets Linda Lee Thomas (Ashley Judd). Their marriage runs on tenderness, money and a quiet arrangement: she knows about his affairs with men and stays his muse anyway. Kline gives you the wit at the piano and the loneliness that paid for it. The standards arrive live — "Night and Day," "Anything Goes," "In the Still of the Night."
Porter's catalog gets sung here by Natalie Cole, Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette and Robbie Williams, woven into the story rather than dropped over it. This one is for viewers who love old Hollywood and the jazz age and want a biopic that lets the talent and the ache sit side by side. Stream De-Lovely (2004) online on iFILM.
