Synopsis
At First Sight (1999) is a drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Irwin Winkler and drawn from a real case documented by neurologist Oliver Sacks. Val Kilmer plays Virgil, a man blind since childhood; Mira Sorvino plays Amy, the architect who changes the course of his life.
Virgil has built an entire world through touch, sound, and imagination. Amy convinces him to try surgery. A doctor achieves what wasn't supposed to be possible, the bandages come off — and Virgil sees for the first time as an adult. What follows isn't the triumph the story seems to promise. His brain has no framework for processing visual input, and the sighted world turns out to be a foreign country he doesn't know how to read.
Sacks wrote the source essay as a study in perception — how a mind shaped by blindness can actually be undone by sight. The film keeps that clinical truth intact while letting the relationship between Virgil and Amy carry the emotional weight. Stream At First Sight (1999) online on iFILM.
