Synopsis

Anne Bancroft plays Helene: wry, broke, and absolutely certain she knows what a properly printed page should feel like. She writes to Marks & Co. in 1949 asking for out-of-print English classics; Anthony Hopkins replies as Frank Doel, a quietly precise man for whom each transatlantic letter is something of a lifeline. Judi Dench appears as Frank's wife. The two correspondents swap books, food parcels, and carefully measured affection across two decades and two very different cities.
