Police officer Daigo Agawa transfers his wife and daughter to Kuge, a remote mountain village. Somewhere quiet, away from whatever incident derailed his last posting. An old woman's body turns up on the mountainside. The Goto family says a bear. Daigo notices a human bite mark. From that point, every oddity in the village — the way people talk, what they don't say, who belongs to the Goto clan and who doesn't — rearranges into something he doesn't want to name out loud.

The series doesn't rely on shock. It accumulates. The horror comes not from a creature but from a community that has kept a secret across generations and learned exactly how much pressure to apply to newcomers who ask the wrong questions.
