About

Synopsis

The Cameraman (1928) is a silent comedy you can watch online on iFILM, co-directed by Buster Keaton and Edward Sedgwick for MGM. Keaton plays a street-corner tintype photographer who sets his sights on a newsreel job — not for the career, but to stay close to office secretary Sally.

His first attempts behind a movie camera are a disaster of his own making: horses run backwards, divers leap back onto their boards, and an armadillo strolls through Manhattan like it owns the place. None of it discourages him. He keeps going out, keeps pointing the lens, and keeps failing in increasingly inventive ways until one assignment finally turns him into a real cameraman.

Widely regarded as the peak of Keaton's feature work, the film shows off his physical comedy and deadpan timing at their sharpest — all stunts performed without a double. Stream The Cameraman (1928) on iFILM.
