Synopsis
The Electric House (1922) is a Buster Keaton silent comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Thanks to a clerical mix-up at the ceremony, a botany graduate walks away with a diploma in electrical engineering — and is promptly hired to wire an entire mansion.
Keaton tackles the job with the confidence of a man who has no idea what he's doing. An escalator in place of stairs, a self-racking pool table, a model train that delivers each dinner course around the table: at first the gadget-house hums along beautifully. Then the genuine engineering grad arrives, rewires everything out of spite, and the place becomes a booby-trapped fairground where the owner barely dodges his own inventions. Twenty-three minutes of precise physical engineering, every stunt performed by Keaton himself — one of which cost him a broken ankle on set.
