Synopsis
The Attorney (변호인, 2013) is a South Korean legal drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Yang Woo-seok drew on the early career of future president Roh Moo-hyun for the story of a Busan tax lawyer who walks into a military-era political trial and can't walk back out the same man.
Song Kang-ho plays Song Woo-seok, a self-made attorney who spent years building a comfortable practice helping wealthy clients minimise their taxes — steady work, good money, no trouble. When the son of a woman who once fed him on credit is arrested with a group of students and tortured into a false confession under the 1981 military government, Woo-seok takes the case. He has no experience with criminal defence and no allies in a system designed to convict. What he has is a clear picture of what actually happened.
