Synopsis
1987: When the Day Comes is a Korean historical thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Director Jang Jun-hwan pieced together the chain of decisions that broke South Korea's military dictatorship — starting on January 14, 1987.
Park Jong-chul died in a National Security Agency interrogation room that morning. The agency wanted the report filed and forgotten; a district prosecutor named Choi refused to sign a fabricated document. That single refusal set off a sequence — a prison warden, a journalist, a young woman named Yeon-hee — each one choosing a small piece of honesty without knowing where the chain would end. Ha Jung-woo, Yoo Hae-jin, Kim Tae-ri, and Kang Dong-won head an ensemble where almost every character is based on someone real.
The film moves like a relay: perspective shifts with each act, tracing private decisions that accumulate into the June Democracy Movement. Kang Dong-won plays Lee Han-yeol, a student struck by a police tear-gas round in June of that year who became the emblem of the uprising. Watch 1987 online on iFILM.
