The Ex

The Ex (2006) is an American comedy directed by Jesse Peretz that you can watch online on iFILM. Tom Reilly has coasted through life on his wife Sofia's ambition — right up until their baby arrives and coasting stops being an option. He ends up at his father-in-law's advertising firm, which would be fine, except Sofia's wheelchair-bound ex-boyfriend Chip already works there.

Zach Braff plays Tom as a man who can't catch a break no matter how hard he tries. Jason Bateman is Chip — all charm and martyrdom on the surface, methodically destroying Tom's credibility below it. Amanda Peet is caught in the middle, Charles Grodin plays the oblivious father-in-law, and Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd show up in supporting roles.

The premise is thin but Bateman runs with it. His Chip is far funnier than the movie has any right to produce. Stream The Ex online on iFILM.
