Synopsis
Sharkwater (2006) is a Canadian documentary by filmmaker Rob Stewart you can watch online on iFILM. Stewart spent years diving with sharks before deciding to film what he actually found: not the predator of a hundred movie posters, but a species four hundred million years old that anchors the ocean's food chain.
Alongside Paul Watson and Sea Shepherd, he heads into waters off Costa Rica and the Galápagos, where industrial-scale illegal fishing strips fins and dumps carcasses overboard. The numbers Stewart puts on screen are difficult: over a hundred million sharks killed per year; fewer than ten people killed by sharks per year worldwide.
The film earns its tension honestly — at one point the crew ends up fleeing authorities underwater. Stream Sharkwater (2006) online on iFILM.
