Synopsis
The Quiet (2005) is an American psychological thriller directed by Jamie Babbit that you can watch online on iFILM. When Dot's father dies, she moves into the home of her godparents — carrying her own buried secret and walking straight into someone else's much darker one.
Nina, the godparents' daughter, is the school's reigning queen bee. She assumes Dot is deaf-mute and talks freely in front of her: confessions about her social games, her fears, and what goes on behind closed doors in the Deer household. Elisha Cuthbert and Camilla Belle play these two roles against each other in a slow, accumulating standoff — one brittle and exposed, the other coiled. The film takes its time letting the pressure build.
Director Babbit isn't interested in jump scares. The tension here is the kind that comes from knowing too much about people who think they're unwatched. It's a genuinely unsettling piece of mid-2000s thriller cinema — underrated, a bit nasty, and worth revisiting. Stream The Quiet online on iFILM.
