Synopsis
A teacher throws himself out the classroom window mid-lesson — that's how School's Out (L'Heure de la sortie, 2018) opens, and you can watch this French thriller online on iFILM. Pierre Hoffman takes over the empty post at an elite middle school and quickly senses that something is badly wrong with a small group of its brightest students.
Laurent Lafitte plays the substitute whose curiosity hardens into obsession. Six gifted teenagers keep to themselves, regard every adult with icy contempt, and are clearly hiding something. Pierre starts trailing them, and the closer he gets, the heavier the air becomes. Director Sébastien Marnier, adapting Christophe Dufossé's novel, tightens the noose slowly — heat, silence and dread instead of jump scares.
This isn't a haunted-house ride; it's a clammy, unsettling mystery about a generation that seems to have already buried its own future. The ending splits viewers down the middle — some find it maddening, others can't shake it. If you like anxious European cinema that refuses to spell things out, give it a go.
