Anime-Gataris (2017) is a Japanese comedy anime you can watch online on iFILM. New Sakaneko High student Minoa Asagaya can't shake the memory of a show she adored as a kid — but the title keeps slipping away from her.

Her muttering catches the ear of Arisu Kamiigusa, the class's rich, popular and secretly hardcore otaku. Together the two launch an Anime Research Club, partly to crack the mystery and partly to round up fellow fans. What begins as a simple search soon tips into something stranger than ordinary school life.

The series doubles as a love letter to the medium itself, with characters cheerfully dissecting tropes, genres and the business behind anime before the plot wanders off into outright fantasy.
