Synopsis
Sink the Bismarck! (1960) is a wartime drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Lewis Gilbert. In the spring of 1941 Germany's newest battleship slips into the Atlantic and, within days, sends the British cruiser Hood to the bottom with nearly all hands. London reels.
Most of the film unfolds not on deck but in the navy's underground operations room. Captain Shepard, a tightly controlled man still grieving a private loss, runs the hunt off charts and signal reports — positioning ships, counting fuel, waiting on every radio intercept. Kenneth More plays him without bombast, just a tired officer who cannot afford a single wrong call. Dana Wynter, as his Wren assistant, is the one person who sees the man behind the armor.
The tension comes from the chase itself rather than the gunfire, and the script sticks closely to the real record of the operation. It remains one of the more sober British war pictures of its era. Good for anyone who likes naval pursuit and war-room chess in the vein of The Imitation Game. Stream Sink the Bismarck! (1960) online on iFILM.
