Synopsis
Clandestine Childhood (Infancia clandestina, 2012) is available to watch online on iFILM — an Argentine drama directed by Benjamín Ávila, drawn from his own years spent living underground.
Argentina, 1979. Twelve-year-old Juan returns from exile with his family, all of them operating under false names. His parents and uncle Beto are Montoneros — a guerrilla movement fighting the military dictatorship. At school Juan is Ernesto. He meets María, falls for her, and guards his secret with every sentence he speaks. Natalia Oreiro and Ernesto Alterio play his parents; newcomer Teo Gutiérrez Moreno carries the film on his own shoulders.
Ávila's debut fiction feature went on to represent Argentina in the foreign-language Oscar race for 2013 — and it earns that recognition. For anyone asking what childhood looks like when your real name is contraband, this is that film. Watch Clandestine Childhood online on iFILM.
