Synopsis
Viva l'Italia (2012) is an Italian comedy directed by Massimiliano Bruno — watch online on iFILM. Michele Spagnolo, a senior politician played by Michele Placido, has a stroke after a private appointment goes badly wrong. He survives. He is changed. From now on, every word out of his mouth is the unfiltered truth.
His grown children — an actress, a doctor, a corporate manager, each played with comic precision by Ambra Angiolini, Raoul Bova, and Alessandro Gassmann — are exactly the kind of people who cannot afford that. Bruno wrote and directed what is essentially a satire aimed at the Italian ruling class, with enough warmth toward its characters to keep the comedy from turning mean. The trick the film pulls is making you root for the newly honest father even as he demolishes everyone around him. Stream Viva l'Italia online on iFILM.
