Synopsis
Vive L'Amour (1995), original title 愛情萬歲, is a Taiwanese drama from Tsai Ming-liang that you can watch online on iFILM. Three lonely people in Taipei pass through the same empty apartment night after night, for a long time never knowing the others exist.
May, played by Yang Kuei-mei, is a real-estate agent who borrows the vacant high-rise flat for brief sexual encounters. The key she drops is picked up by Hsiao-kang, a shy young man who sells burial niches and quietly moves into the place that isn't his. A third key goes to Ah-jung, her casual lover. Soon the three of them are sharing the same rooms in secret, slipping past one another, and the apartment turns into a mirror of how little they can say out loud.
Tsai works almost without dialogue: long static takes, echoing empty spaces, and a closing shot in a half-built park where May weeps for some six minutes in a single unbroken frame. The film shared the Golden Lion at Venice, and it's slow, demanding cinema about urban loneliness — for anyone willing to sit with silence instead of conversation, it lingers.
