Synopsis
The Public (2019) is a social drama you can watch online on iFILM — written, directed by, and starring Emilio Estevez. On a bitter Cincinnati winter night, a group of homeless men refuses to leave the public library at closing time. What starts as a small act of refusal becomes a standoff.
Librarian Stuart (Estevez) ends up caught between city management and the people on the other side of the glass who have nowhere to go. Alec Baldwin plays the detective sent to negotiate; Christian Slater is an opportunistic district attorney watching his career chances. Taylor Schilling, Jeffrey Wright and Gabrielle Union round out the ensemble. The film never tells you who is right — it sets up the question and lets you sit with it.
