Three Monkeys

The father goes to prison to cover for someone else's crime. While he's gone, his wife and son each try to hold things together in their own way, both hiding it from each other. Ceylan shoots all of this with near-total silence: long static frames, rain-soaked Istanbul streets, glances instead of explanations. The film took the Best Director prize at Cannes in 2008.
