Synopsis
"Michou d'Auber" (2007) is a French drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Thomas Gilou. The story unfolds in late 1950s France, as the country fights a brutal war in Algeria and the lives of immigrant families grow precarious. Nine-year-old Messaoud loses his mother and is placed with a childless rural couple — Gisèle and her fiercely patriotic ex-army husband Georges.
Nathalie Baye plays Gisèle with quiet toughness: she dyes the boy's hair blond, renames him Michel — Michou — and keeps his origins from a man she knows would send him away. Gérard Depardieu turns Georges into something more complicated than a villain, and young Samy Seghir holds the center without overplaying it. Mathieu Amalric appears as the boy's father. The lie holds, for a while. Stream "Michou d'Auber" online on iFILM.
