Synopsis
Planet of the Vampires (Terrore nello spazio, 1965) is an Italian sci-fi horror you can watch online on iFILM. Mario Bava shot it in a few weeks on a minimal budget, and it looks nothing like what those constraints should have produced.
Two spaceships land on the planet Aura in response to an unidentified signal. The first crew is gone. The second team finds only bodies — and then the bodies start moving. Barry Sullivan plays the captain holding the crew together while running out of explanations. Bava built the alien landscape from fog machines, papier-mâché and colored gels, then lit it like a painting from another world.
The film is widely cited as a template for Alien (1979): the same setup — a signal from an unknown planet, a dead expedition, something taking over bodies one by one. Six decades later, that visual approach still holds. Watch Planet of the Vampires (1965) online on iFILM.
