Synopsis
Mad Detective (神探, 2007) is a Hong Kong crime thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Wai Ka-fai and Johnnie To. Inspector Bun is a schizophrenic ex-cop whose last act on the force was slicing off his own ear as a gift to his superior. Now he's being pulled back in: a patrol officer has vanished, and the investigation is going nowhere.
Bun's ability is strange and very specific — he sees people's inner personalities as separate, physical figures. One suspect carries seven different ghosts inside him. Rookie detective Ho initially treats this as desperation. By the end, he's not so sure who's actually seeing straight. The film shoots Hong Kong at night like a fever dream — tight spaces, broken light, the city itself seeming to close in.
