2001 Maniacs

2001 Maniacs (2005) is an American horror-comedy directed by Tim Sullivan — watch it online on iFILM. A van-load of college students detours off the highway and rolls into Pleasant Valley, a sleepy Southern town whose residents, led by the flamboyant Mayor Buckman, are throwing their annual celebration. Robert Englund plays Buckman with gleeful menace — part carnival barker, part butcher — and the film earns its tagline early: the visitors are not guests at the feast, they are the feast. Director Tim Sullivan reworks Herschell Gordon Lewis's 1964 splatter landmark Two Thousand Maniacs! with a modern cast that includes Giuseppe Andrews and Peter Stormare, keeping the original's cheerful brutality while amping up the camp.
