Synopsis
Bellamy (2009) is a French crime drama you can watch online on iFILM — the final film directed by Claude Chabrol, who had been making movies since 1958. Commissioner Paul Bellamy is one of Paris's most celebrated detectives: large, unhurried, fond of good wine, and on what was supposed to be a quiet summer holiday in the south of France.
Two complications arrive at once. His half-brother Jacques shows up uninvited — charming, drunk, carrying an old resentment. Then a stranger named Noël Gentil creeps in from a nearby motel, hinting that he may have killed someone but refusing to name the victim. Bellamy can't ignore it. Chabrol shoots it all without urgency — no car chases, no violence — just the pressure of what goes unsaid in a room.
Gérard Depardieu plays Bellamy with a physical ease that does more than any monologue could. Chabrol spent his career dissecting bourgeois French life with dark humor and cool detachment, and this farewell is generous, a little melancholy, unmistakably his. Stream Bellamy (2009) on iFILM.
