July 13, 1942. A single KV-1 heavy tank faces a German column near the village of Nizhnemityakin in the Rostov region. The crew, led by Sergeant Semyon Konovalov, knocks out 16 enemy tanks, two armored cars, and eight transport trucks before the fight is over. The film refuses the usual war-movie heroics: these soldiers joke, argue, and are plainly afraid — which makes what they choose to do feel real rather than staged. For a patriotic production, it carries an unusual emotional weight.
