Synopsis

Winter of 1942, the fight for the village of Ovsyannikovo near Rzhev. Barely a third of the company lives through the assault, and the survivors dig in to hold what they've taken until reinforcements come. Then headquarters sends a blunt order: keep the village at any cost, no retreat. Soon after, a junior lieutenant from the security branch reaches the trenches — nearly killed by shelling on the way — tasked with rooting out traitors among his own men.
Kopylov skips the parade-ground heroics for mud, fear and the impossible pull between an order and a conscience. The camera rarely leaves the trench line, so you wait it out shoulder to shoulder with the soldiers. It suits viewers after hard, ground-level war cinema with no triumphant score and no soft ending.
