The Hunting Ground
For 1 in 5 women, their dream school will become a nightmare.
Synopsis
The Hunting Ground (2015) is an investigative documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Director Kirby Dick lays out how American universities spent years burying reports of sexual assault on their campuses.
At its core are several undergraduates who survived an attack and refused to stay quiet. The camera follows them as they try to get their cases heard and meet pressure instead of protection: administrators guarding reputations and athletic programs, complaints lost in paperwork, the women themselves facing harassment. The personal stories add up to one pattern — a system that finds it easier to doubt the survivor than to admit the problem.
Dick, who had already filmed cover-ups inside the U.S. military, builds the movie from raw interviews and the schools' own records. The film sparked fierce debate and pushed a wave of changes to campus policy across the country. Heavy but necessary viewing for anyone who values social documentaries that actually moved the needle.
