Synopsis
Bunraku (2010) is an action film you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Guy Moshe with a cast including Josh Hartnett, Woody Harrelson, Ron Perlman and Japanese rock musician GACKT. Set in a world where guns have been banned, it takes its name from traditional Japanese puppet theatre — and the film's entire visual design reflects that: stylized sets, graphic novel panel transitions, colour-coded spaces.
A nameless drifter and a young samurai arrive in a city controlled by a crime lord called Nicola the Woodcutter and his nine killers. Their paths cross at the bar run by a man who knows everything and says just enough. Hartnett plays the outsider cool, Perlman plays the villain large and unhurried, and Harrelson gets the film's best dry lines as the bartender.
Bunraku commits fully to its artificiality — which either clicks or doesn't in the opening ten minutes. If you're on board with the aesthetic, the fight choreography and the mythology of the world keep it moving for two hours. Stream Bunraku (2010) online on iFILM.
