Synopsis

The Shrine (2010) is a Canadian horror film directed by Jon Knautz that you can watch online on iFILM. A small group of journalists follows the trail of a missing backpacker to an isolated village in rural Poland. The locals speak no English and want no company. A dense fog sits permanently over a field on the edge of town, and at its centre stands a stone figure nobody will explain.

Aaron Ashmore and Cindy Sampson lead a cast that sells the slow-building dread convincingly. The film starts as a journalistic procedural and pivots hard into cult ritual territory — the kind where medieval religious horror is not a metaphor but a practice very much still in use. What makes The Shrine worth watching past its setup is a structural twist in the final act that retroactively reframes everything that came before it.

Low budget, but honest about its atmosphere. Stream The Shrine (2010) on iFILM.
