Synopsis
When You're Strange (2010) is a documentary about The Doors you can watch online on iFILM. Director Tom DiCillo built the film entirely from archival footage shot between 1965 and 1971 — from the UCLA film school hallways where Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek first crossed paths, all the way to sold-out arenas and Morrison's final months in Paris. Johnny Depp narrates.
The film pulls from material that had never been publicly screened: rehearsals, candid road footage, off-stage moments that strip away the mythology. Drummer John Densmore, guitarist Robby Krieger, keyboardist Manzarek and Morrison emerge as four distinct people with real friction between them, not a monolithic legend. At 86 minutes, it moves through six years of music while keeping one eye on the era around it — Vietnam, the Kennedy assassinations, the whole crumbling of the American consensus that made The Doors feel necessary.
