Synopsis
Shéhérazade (2018) — watch online on iFILM. Jean-Bernard Marlin's debut feature is a gritty French drama set in the backstreets of Marseille, built almost entirely on non-professional performers: Dylan Robert and Kenza Fortas, both teenagers at the time of filming.
Zachary walks out of juvenile detention with nothing. His mother won't open the door, so he drifts into the city's roughest corners. There he meets Shéhérazade — sharp, street-savvy, already playing by rules he doesn't yet understand. What starts as attraction pulls him into her orbit and slowly into her livelihood, the shift happening so gradually neither of them calls it by its name.
Marlin shot on location with a rawness that no studio polish could replicate, and the film picked up the Jury Prize in the Horizons section at Venice 2018 — recognition that the street-level authenticity landed. Stream Shéhérazade (2018) online on iFILM.
