Inuyashiki

Inuyashiki (いぬやしき, 2018) is a Japanese sci-fi action film you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Shinsuke Sato and starring Takeru Satoh and Kanata Hongo. Based on Hiroya Oku's manga, the live-action feature runs 127 minutes and takes one of superhero fiction's oldest questions and refuses to let it off easy.

Ichiro Inuyashiki is an invisible fifty-year-old office worker — overlooked at the job, ignored at home, just diagnosed with terminal cancer. One night in an empty field, a flash rewrites his shattered body into a war machine: he can fly, fire artillery from his arm, and regenerate tissue on command. He uses every bit of it to quietly heal dying children in hospital wards. The teenager rebuilt the same night, Hiro Shishigami, got the same hardware and points it in the opposite direction.

The simultaneous anime series leaned into Oku's bleak tone; this theatrical cut goes harder on the physical confrontation and the gap between the two characters feels almost uncomfortably blunt.
