Synopsis

Alone (Issız Adam, 2008) is a Turkish romantic drama from director Çağan Irmak that you can watch online on iFILM. Alper and Ada meet in a small second-hand bookshop in Istanbul — a chance encounter that sparks a romance neither of them was supposed to have.

Alper is a successful chef in his early thirties who owns his own restaurant and fills his nights with one-night stands and a quiet, chronic emptiness. Ada designs children's clothes and lives simply and openly. Their worlds barely overlap, yet they keep pulling toward each other. As he grows closer to Ada, Alper has to face the hollowness he used to drown out with casual sex. Cemal Hünal and Melis Birkan play the leads.

Irmak shoots Istanbul like a third character — the streets, the ferries and the rain frame a story about whether a person can truly let someone in. The film became a cult favourite among Turkish-cinema fans precisely for its honest, unsweetened ending. A melancholy city romance for viewers who don't need a happy ending to feel something.
