Autumn

Autumn (Sonbahar, 2008), the debut feature by Turkish director Özcan Alper, is a quiet drama you can watch online on iFILM. Yusuf was arrested during his university years for political activity and spent a decade in prison. He comes out and makes his way back to his mother's village in the mountains of Turkey's northeastern Black Sea coast.

His mother is sick. The season is ending. Then he meets Eka — a Georgian woman working in the area with few options and no clear way forward. Onur Saylak and Megi Kobaladze play two people who come together not from romance but from the particular need to not be completely alone. Alper shot on location in the Artvin highlands in real autumn light, and the landscape carries as much weight as the dialogue. The film took the Golden Orange at the Antalya Film Festival.
