About

Synopsis

The Little Bather (Le Petit Baigneur, 1968) is a French comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Robert Dhéry and built around Louis de Funès as Louis-Philippe Fourchaume, the short-fused CEO of a sailboat manufacturer. In a fit of temper he sacks his top designer, André Castagnier — on the exact same day one of the company's boats sinks at its own launch ceremony. Then word arrives that a yacht Castagnier designed just won the prestigious Sanremo regatta.

Fourchaume sets off into rural France to retrieve his former employee, who now has competing offers and zero interest in coming back. The countryside proves deeply unwelcoming to the city boss: Castagnier's family runs on its own schedule, the local customs make no allowances for impatience, and every attempt to regain control backfires.

De Funès was at the peak of his commercial appeal in France by 1968, and this film shows exactly why — his physical comedy and escalating frustration carry scenes that exist purely as vehicles for his reactions. Light, fast and very French in its humour. Stream The Little Bather (1968) online on iFILM.
