Observe and Report

Watch Observe and Report (2009) online on iFILM — Jody Hill's dark comedy with Seth Rogen, Ray Liotta, and Anna Faris, 86 minutes, and considerably stranger than its mall-cop premise suggests.

Ronnie Barnhardt runs mall security with the conviction of a man who believes the parking lot is the front line of civilization. When a flasher starts terrorizing shoppers, Ronnie sees his shot at proving he belongs in a real badge — a plan that collides badly with the actual detective assigned to the case. Rogen plays Ronnie not as a lovable loser but as someone genuinely unwell, whose delusions tip from comedy into something unsettling. The film commits fully to that discomfort, which is either its biggest flaw or what makes it worth watching, depending on your tolerance for comedy that refuses to be nice.
