The Seven Five
In 1980's Brooklyn, The Most Dangerous Gangsters Were New York City Cops.
Synopsis
The Seven Five (2015) is a true-crime documentary you can watch online on iFILM, built around Michael Dowd — by most accounts the dirtiest cop New York City ever put in uniform. He patrolled Brooklyn's 75th precinct and treated the badge as a license to steal.
At the height of the 1980s crack epidemic, Dowd did far more than pocket bribes. He guarded drug crews, moved cocaine in his squad car, and ran his own gang from inside the NYPD. Director Tiller Russell hands the story to the men who lived it: Dowd and his associates recount their crimes on camera with an ease that borders on cheerful, like old friends swapping war stories.
The hook is that the star witness is also the chief villain, and watching his shameless charm is gripping and queasy at once. It plays closer to a gangster film than a sober police record. Anyone who tore through The Jinx or Narcos will feel right at home. Stream The Seven Five (2015) online on iFILM.
