Dig!

Dig! (2004) is an American music documentary you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Ondi Timoner across seven years of footage — more than 1,500 hours — following two bands as one signs to a major label and the other tears itself apart.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols came up together out of the same early-'90s Northern California underground. Anton Newcombe, BJM's founder, writes songs with genuine melodic invention and then guarantees nothing comes of them: mid-show brawls, constant lineup changes, a relationship with drugs that ate most of what his talent built. Courtney Taylor-Taylor aimed the Dandy Warhols toward tighter pop-psych, got the label deal and the MTV rotation. The parallel tracks make each side legible by contrast.
