Synopsis

Maria Vial's ex-husband and father-in-law are ready to leave the coffee plantation behind. Maria is not. She keeps managing the harvest while fighters drift through the fields, her troubled son drifts toward the violence, and everyone around her knows what she refuses to accept. Denis wrote the script with Marie NDiaye and shot entirely on location in Cameroon. The result is a film less about politics than about the cost of belonging — or believing you do.
