Synopsis
Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (2010) is a Thai fantasy drama you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul. It claimed the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 2010 — the first Thai film to do so.
Boonmee is dying of kidney failure and has come to stay with relatives in the countryside. One evening at dinner, the ghost of his late wife quietly takes a seat at the table. Then his son, missing for years, walks out of the jungle in the body of a creature with glowing red eyes. Nobody runs. The family simply passes the food and talks.
Weerasethakul builds the film around stillness rather than plot. The past lives drift in and out like half-remembered dreams, the border between the living and the dead is treated as a mild inconvenience, and the final act shifts registers entirely into something closer to folklore. This is patient, genuinely strange cinema — closer to a waking trance than a conventional narrative. Stream Uncle Boonmee (2010) online on iFILM.
