Synopsis
The Dominici Affair (L'Affaire Dominici, 1973) — watch online on iFILM, a French crime drama reconstructing one of the most disputed murder trials of postwar France. In August 1952, a British family — father, mother, ten-year-old daughter — was found dead on a back road in Provence.
Seventy-five-year-old farmer Gaston Dominici was denounced by his own sons and brought in for questioning. He confessed. Then retracted. Jean Gabin carries the film as the old man being slowly taken apart by the interrogation — no grandstanding, just weight. Director Claude Bernard-Aubert is less interested in solving the case than in showing how a confession gets built when the evidence isn't there. Gérard Depardieu appears in an early supporting role.
