In 1519 five worn-out ships and roughly 250 men sail from Seville chasing a western route to the Spice Islands. Ahead lie three years of hunger, scurvy, storms at the edge of the charted world, and mutinies their captain crushes without mercy. Magellan is fixated on a passage no one aboard believes is real. Elcano starts the voyage as a rebel and ends it as the man left to finish what Magellan began.

The co-production between Spain, the UK and the US spends its budget on salt, rope and ruin, and it never hides the price: barely a dozen sailors lived to see Seville again.
