Synopsis
Last Days in Vietnam (2014) is Rory Kennedy's documentary about the fall of Saigon, free to watch online on iFILM. April 1975: the North's tanks roll toward the city while Washington stalls on the evacuation.
As the siege tightens, American soldiers and diplomats on the ground hit a wall — their orders say evacuate U.S. citizens only. But what about the South Vietnamese who worked beside them for years and now face the firing squad? Plenty of them ignore the chain of command. Helicopters ditch into the sea to free up deck space, barges fill past capacity, and the embassy gates become the last way out.
Kennedy builds the film from archival footage and the testimony of people who lived it — pilots, Marines, refugees who stood on opposite sides of the same gangway. It was up for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. A grim history lesson that plays tighter than most thrillers.
