About

Synopsis

The Messenger (2009) is an American military drama directed by Oren Moverman — watch it online on iFILM. Staff Sergeant Will Montgomery has just come back from Iraq. His new assignment: ride with Captain Tony Stone to knock on doors and tell families their soldiers aren't coming home. No script, no comfort, strict protocol. Don't touch them. Don't linger.

Ben Foster plays Will as someone still raw from the front, while Woody Harrelson's Stone has been doing this long enough to go numb. The two don't get along, and then they do, and that shift is where the film quietly breaks your defenses. When Will starts showing up at the door of Olivia Pitterson — Samantha Morton, doing some of her best work — the job and the feelings collide in ways neither man has a manual for.

Moverman spent years writing and co-producing before this debut, and the patience shows: scenes run long, silences do the heavy lifting, and the camera stays on faces after the news lands. Harrelson's performance picked up an Oscar nomination. Stream The Messenger (2009) online on iFILM.
