The True Cost
Who Pays the Price for Our Clothing?
Synopsis
The True Cost (2015) is Andrew Morgan's documentary about fast fashion, and you can watch it online on iFILM. It traces the journey of a cheap t-shirt all the way from glossy storefronts back to the crowded garment factories of the global South.
Morgan keeps circling one uncomfortable question: who really pays when a shirt costs less than a cup of coffee? He looks for the answer in the rubble of Bangladesh's Rana Plaza, which collapsed in 2013, in conversations with designer Stella McCartney and activist Vandana Shiva, and in the blunt commentary of economist Richard Wolff.
The film weaves field footage with talking heads but never guilt-trips you — it simply lays one of the planet's dirtiest industries bare. Ninety-two minutes later, the little "made in" tag on your collar reads differently. Stream The True Cost online on iFILM.
