About

Synopsis

The Trotsky (2010) is a Canadian comedy you can watch online on iFILM, and its hero is a Montreal teenager who is dead certain he's the reincarnation of Bolshevik revolutionary Leon Trotsky.

Leon Bronstein (Jay Baruchel) kicks things off by talking the workers at his father's clothing factory into a strike. The punishment: a transfer from private school to a public one, where he promptly reinvents the student council as a union, courts an older woman named Alexandra, and declares open war on the principal. Every move maps onto the real Trotsky's biography, hunger strikes and all.

Director Jacob Tierney lets Baruchel play the fanatic with a perfectly straight face, and that deadpan is exactly what makes the whole conceit land. It's a smart teen comedy for anyone who likes oddball obsessives and history-class jokes that actually pay off. Stream The Trotsky (2010) online on iFILM.
