Synopsis
Winnetou and the Crossbreed (Winnetou und das Halbblut Apanatschi, 1966) is a German-Yugoslav western you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Harald Philipp, it draws on Karl May's novels and was shot in the rugged Balkans standing in for the American frontier.
On her coming-of-age day, Apanatschi — daughter of a white settler and an Apache woman — inherits her father's hidden gold mine. The joy is brief. Greedy prospectors murder her father for the claim and kidnap the girl and her brother, who flee toward the one man who can shield them: the Apache chief Winnetou (Pierre Brice), riding alongside the sharpshooter Old Shatterhand (Lex Barker). Götz George and Uschi Glas round out the cast.
A late entry in the much-loved 1960s Winnetou cycle, it's sunny, earnest and charmingly dated. Good company for anyone who misses the bloodless, big-hearted adventure westerns of that era. Stream Winnetou and the Crossbreed (1966) online on iFILM.
