In the early 1980s, Peralta and George Powell recruited six teenage outsiders who didn't fit anywhere: Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, Lance Mountain, Mike McGill, Steve Caballero, Tommy Guerrero. Each was an odd specialist in a different discipline. Under the Powell Peralta banner, they pushed vert, street, and freestyle skating in directions the industry hadn't imagined. The film draws on original VHS footage from the era and sit-down interviews where the athletes are candid about the loneliness that came before the trophies.
