Pawn

Pawn (담보, 2020) is a South Korean family drama with a comic streak that you can watch online on iFILM. Incheon, 1993. Doo-seok looks like the last loan shark you'd want at your door, but the seven-year-old girl he takes as collateral on her mother's unpaid debt is about to rewrite his whole life.

When the mother is detained by immigration and deported, she hands Doo-seok a relative's phone number — someone who'll clear the debt and collect little Seung-yi. That call never gets answered. So the girl stays in the cramped apartment Doo-seok shares with his partner, two grown men with no clue how to raise a kid. They grow attached faster than either will admit.

Directed by Kang Dae-gyu and led by Song Dong-il, the film leaps across years and quietly shifts gears, from street-level comedy to a story about chosen family and the debts that can't be settled in cash. It earns its tears honestly. Stream Pawn (2020) online on iFILM.
