Synopsis
Nana (2005) is a Japanese music drama you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Kentaro Otani, it brings Ai Yazawa's beloved manga to the screen, with singer Mika Nakashima and Aoi Miyazaki in the lead roles.
Two young women who happen to share the same name end up on the same train to Tokyo. Nana Osaki is the sharp-edged vocalist of a punk band, chasing a career on stage. Nana Komatsu, nicknamed Hachi, is following a boyfriend and a more ordinary kind of happiness. Opposites in almost every way, they wind up sharing apartment 707 and quietly becoming each other's anchor.
Nakashima does more than play a rock star — she actually sings for her character, so the Blast numbers carry real weight throughout. Yazawa's manga built a huge following, and this version keeps its mood intact: friendship, ambition, and love that rarely goes to plan. Warm and sometimes bruising, it's made for anyone who likes coming-of-age stories scored to a loud guitar. Stream Nana (2005) online on iFILM.
